In Poul Havgaard’s long design career, it all began with the belts he created for the French fashion designer Pierre Cardin in Paris. In the 1970s, he made large sculptural buckles, designer belts for men used for Cardin’s fashion shows and collections. The belts have since remained a distinctive signature of Poul Havgaard’s jewelry and form a core element throughout his design collections.

Many of the buckles measure approximately 65 × 48 mm and weigh more than 120 grams in sterling silver, making each belt a substantial sculptural object in its own right.

Originally, Poul Havgaard forged the buckles in iron in his workshop in Faaborg, Denmark and cut the leather by hand. Over time, he developed designs to be produced in either bronze or sterling silver. – Valuing quality and craftsmanship, these belt buckles are made to last a lifetime.
Today, selected belt designs are produced in small series by his daughter, Marie Havgaard, based on Poul Havgaard’s original models. The leather is carefully selected and comes from Italy and Sweden.
